Collaborative Law
For a divorce with privacy, dignity, and control

Is it the right choice?

the alternate dispute resolution process   The alternate dispute resolution process offered by trained collaborative lawyers brings many advantages. For instance, both parties have skilled advisors at every stage of the process who understand how to forge creative settlements. You are never on your own; your counsel is at your side, explaining issues and helping to achieve goals by mutual participation and agreement.

the collaborative divorce process  Everyone in the process agrees in advance to work only toward a settlement meeting the main priorities of both parties which is in the best interests of the post-divorce family. Litigation is never threatened; game-playing and taking advantage are not permitted.

Collaborative divorce means no court  The lawyers share with their clients a financial incentive to make the collaborative process work. The lawyers have not succeeded unless they help you create a win-win solution. They are "out of a job" if the process breaks down.

How to get started:

  1. Talk with your spouse about collaborative law.
  2. Each of you select an attorney from the Collaborative Legal Colleagues list. Either spouse may meet with more than one attorney before selecting counsel.
  3. Meet with your attorney to help you decide if the process is right for you.
  4. Both spouses and attorneys sign the agreements and guidelines provided by collaborative counsel that start the process. Each spouse meets with his/her counsel, then all attend the first collaborative meeting.
